The Fake Wedding
Now, If you have spoken to me about a wedding any time in the last 3 years. You would have proudly heard me say… I WANT TO ELOPE!
And when Paul and I were first talking, it was one of the things that I felt such a huge sigh of relief about, as he said he would be open to the idea too. Especially as one of his family members had recently done so.
Without going too much into my family history, as this is not what this post is about, but when your parents have been married multiple times. And there are so many components to the people whom you call family 1. You see the cost in a traditional wedding rising to astronomical amounts 2. You can imagine the seating chart gets a bit tricky.
Now if it was a desire that I wanted, I would obviously make it work… and who knows what the future will bring. But for now, I am still gravitating towards wanting to elope, with maybe a special little get together for our closest friends and family.
To me, there is just something deeply, deeply personal, and sacred about a wedding day. And I really would just love to have it between us as the people who are getting married.
…Now, with that being said - Knowing how I feel about weddings and how personal I feel about them…where I have personally wanted to go a little wild is, with an engagement party. And although I won’t be sharing all my desires for that – as hey, gotta keep some things a surprise !
When we were invited to come along to The Fake Wedding at Kings Weston House – although I am not really in the market for a wedding venue, as I would love to elope and I mean…. I still have to wait for Paul to ask LOL. I was super excited to come and check the place out, as who knows… maybe it could be the coolest spot for an engagement party.
Kings Weston House is a Grade 1 listed building that was completed in 1719 and designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, who also designed Blenheim Palace.
The house boasts a plethora of 18th-century features, including magnificent ceilings, marble fireplaces, and a stunning suspended central staircase. It is elegant and characterful, yet retains the charm of a lived-in and loved family home.
Surrounding the house are woodlands and green fields, and free parking is available in the woodland car park. Kings Weston House is situated just 10 minutes from Bristol city centre, and a short drive from both the M4 and M5 motorways.
The fake wedding was basically an immersive wedding fair, and let me tell you , it was a wedding fair, like no wedding fair I had ever been to… or honestly even dreamt of going to. Basically, they threw 2 weddings, and had a select few of the top vendors in and around the Bristol area, and threw a fake wedding !
They had a commissioner that would show you what her weddings look like. They had a Dj that would show you how he would DJ a wedding for you. Decorators and florist there to show you how they would execute your vision. Photographers there, to get to know you and give you a sample of their work !
It honestly was so well thought out !
But truthfully I have to admit, I think my two favourite parts were the dresses ( sourced from our friends from Heartfelt Vintage, you would have seen me visit their shop in the summer with Jackie squared ). And last but definitely not least, the home !
I think why I was so floored by this venue, is the fact that it has so much character on its own… I honestly do not think you would need to have any other decorations with you ! I have seen, and experienced people spend up to 100 K on their wedding day, and it was absolutely stunning, but sometimes I think when you are working with a venue that is more so of a blank canvas, that is where you start spending exuberant amounts of money.
I honestly was just in love with the place, and totally understood why some of the owners still live on the property ! Yes, you definitely heard that right ! People still live in this place !! And there is a café in the basement – that looks out to the most beautiful views !
I vlogged the day, in which you can check it out here, or by clicking the YouTube video down below. But omg, I hope you guys love this place as much as I do… I would be lying If I didn’t say that it has inspired me to check out similar venues in the area – just so I know my options / and if I truly want to elope when the time comes.
What about you ? Have you been to this venue ? Are you married, did you do the whole big traditional wedding thing ? Or did you happen to elope ? If so, where did you go ?
